Facebook to add third-party app support for its Messenger

At the F8 developer conference, Facebook plans to announce some big changes for its Messenger app. According to The Next Digit, the social network giant plans to bring about 20 changes to the Messenger in a bid to compete with the successful messaging apps like WeChat and Line.

Facebook is said to first work on how third party developers can build ways for content and information for the Messenger. On gauging the success of these early experiments, Facebook will then introduce more utilities to the Messenger app.
It will allow third-party apps to access the company’s Messenger service and plans tie-ups with about 20 different outfits.

According to TheRegister, a person familiar with the matter said, “The 20 third party apps will work on top of Messenger.”

Among the changes will be the company’s latest announcement to bring payments through its Messenger. The social network believes the feature will be welcomed among the younger generation, however, the involvement of payment data means the company will have to step up security. The company has also hired former PayPal President David Marcus who will now head the Messenger division.
